Although, to my friends away from Hawaii who hate when I post photos like this, just keep in mind that it's actually pouring today over most of Oahu. I just needed to remind all of us of what we can normally look forward to.

First Time Visit to Sapporo Rai Rai Ramen

I enjoy eating ramen. There's something about the simplicity of noodles, broth, vegetables, and meat that makes both my tastebuds and my belly happy.

Recently, I got to try Sapporo Rai Rai Ramen on Kapahulu Ave. It's interesting because this place has been around for years, having been formerly located where Chef Sean Prister's Soul Cafe is currently. But I only recently heard about it from several friends. So after Yoga in the Park one night, my fellow classmates and I decided to venture over there.

For a couple, they'd been frequenting the place for years. For most of us, it was a new experience. It was enjoyable and it's nice to know I have a go-to place for good ramen in that area.

Food choices included the miso, shoyu, and char siu ramens, as well as gyoza (the perfect accompaniment to any ramen).

PS: There is no bathroom at the restaurant and the one in the building closes after a certain time. So if you need to go, try to go before, or you may have to walk to another nearby business.

Just in Time for #Glee Tonight: Celeb Sighting - Principal Figgins

When I was in LA recently, I happened to eat at an ice cream shop that Iqbal Theba AKA Principal Figgins on Glee visited. Yes, I know the shots are REALLY bad and you can't quite make him out, but I promise it was him. He was with his family, so my buddies really didn't want me to bother him. 

It went against every social media sharer bone in my body to accommodate their wishes. So you can blame them for the poor quality of the shots. :)

They Came to Love Chinese Food Like @CAPSUN

Yesterday, I arranged to eat dim sum with anyone who was willing to join me in Honolulu's Chinatown. Chinese Cultural Plaza, to be exact. It's nothing new, I actually can eat Chinese food all the time; in fact, I want dim sum every Sunday, but don't actually make it each time I have the craving.

Saturday evening, it dawned on me that I should open it up to anyone else. So, we had a nice group of seven, of whom two were non-Chinese. I actually warned the non-Chinese guests that they should bring their adventurous palates because I knew I was going to order and devour my chicken legs (one of my favorite dim sum dishes).

It was a great lunch that combined food, fun, friends, and fellowship. I proclaim it a success.

25th Island Wide Christmas Crafts & Food Expo at the Blaisdell

Yesterday, I made a spur-of-the-moment decision to check out the annual Christmas Craft Fair at the Blaisdell. Being Chinese, I questioned if the $4 would really be worth it, but I was not disappointed. The crowd was just as busy as at the malls, if not moreso! And one thing that is great about going there instead of big box retailers is that we get to support small, local businesses.

A New, Improved Apple Store Ala Moana

Good news for Hawaii shoppers and Apple fans. The flagship Hawaii store at Ala Moana Center just reopened yesterday.

I stopped by for an unplanned visit, but it was worth it. Unfortunately, I didn't go early enough to get a free t-shirt.

It's bigger than the old space, so they must have taken over a neighboring store. And all of this is just in time for the holiday shopping season that's already underway.

Visiting the Apple Store in San Francisco

Located in the busy shopping district of Union Square, this is one of the beautifully-designed Apple stores. It's massive in size and even has 2 stories. The first floor ha items for sale while the second has their Genius Bar, section for One-to-One personal assistance, and even a little theater area for presentations. And the place is always busy - there were still lines out the door to buy an iPhone 4S!
